Chuck Voight:
Since 1973 Chuck, aka "the fat boy", has worked at Guilford Garden Center. He is the proud owner of the establishment, and with a business degree as well as many many years of horticultural experience he knows his way around a garden center pretty good!
Chuck has a wonderful habit of being able to remember almost all his customers' names, and of course he usually has a corny joke for any occasion.
If you want to talk to somebody about some yard work you need taken care of Chuck's your man. He'll be happy to work out the details with you, or if you just need some advice he can help you there too.
David O'Ferrell:
Having been a former partner at Scott's Seed, David has a vast wealth of horticultural knowledge to share with his customers.
Be it a matter of which product is the right one to treat a particular pest, or how to go about setting up a pond or water feature, there's very few questions that can stump Dave.
Of course if you do manage to stump him, you can be sure he'll do some research to find the answer you need!
Nanette Detschel:
Nan hasn't always been in the horticulture business. In fact she used to be in the food sector, but it's safe to say that she has certainly found her place now!
Nan is the main buyer for all the unique gift items we carry here at Guilford Garden Center, and she has an eye for finding the unusual.
She also takes care of our Annuals and Perennials. There aren't too many Perennials Nan isn't aware of, and she's definitely the go-to person when it comes to looking for an annual or perennial that will work in a certain spot, so if your looking for just the right plant for your situation,or that special gift item, come on by and talk to her, she'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
Stuart Gillies:
Originally hailing from Scotland Stu came to Guilford Garden Center in 2003.
Stu studied Horticulture at the Scottish Agricultural College, and since then has worked in both the wholesale and retail side of the garden industry.
Whether you need some advice about caring for your lawn or choosing a shrub for your yard he should be able to answer your questions. That is, of course, if you can understand "The Scotsman's" accent!
Jean Wiese:
Formerly a Nebraska native, where she worked in a wholesale/retail nursery Jean relocated to our warmer climate in the 90's.
Jean has a keen eye for complimentary color combinations as well as a good sense of what's hot in our gifts and statuary lines.
If your looking for some planters to decorate around your house Jean can certainly walk you through the process from start to finish, including the right plants and the right pot. She'll even plant them for you if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.
Mike Hancock:
Mike works part time with our company, but don't let that fool you, he knows his plants!
Mike has worked in the garden industry for several years and has a great working knowledge of what works well in our area and what doesn't.
Mike is a great source of information if you need to figure out good companion plants for a certain area of your yard, or for that matter if you just need some ideas for a brand new natural area. Whether it's a shady spot or a sunny one, he'll be able to tell you what's right for your situation.
Shelly Holbrook:
Another one that is a transplant from the food service industry (what is this correlation between the food sector and the green industry anyway?) Shelly has quickly become very capable around a garden center. She has a keen sense of which combinations of colors and textures work well together and which ones do not. She can often be found putting together some beautiful custom combo planters, and if you wish, she'll be more than happy to put one together for you too!
Cornelius Guitierrez:
For several years now Cornelius has worked here at Guilford Garden Center in our landscape services division, and before that with another landscape company.
Cornelius' landscape experience allows him to know exactly what needs done in a yard to make it "shine".
From small clean up jobs to large plantings Corny is able to tackle them all with quality workmanship backed by practical knowledge.
If you need an area of your yard spruced up but don't want to do it yourself come on in and talk to us, and Corny will have it looking right in no time.
Lyon Herbert:
Having worked in the construction industry before joining us here at Guilford Garden Center, Lyon has been a great asset in our landscaping division. The knowledge he gained in that industry has lent itself well to the way he carries out his landscape maintenance jobs. So be it a small landscaping task or a large one, he will make sure you get your yard looking the way you want it.
Chris Medlin:
Chris is currently studying at UNCG, but works with us here on Weekends. He has learned a lot about the green industry since coming on board with us, and his thirst for knowledge is infectious. If you need help with your plants he will be more than happy to assist you, and if he's not sure of the correct answer you can rest assured he'll find out for you!
Linda Johnson:
For several years Linda has been one of our regular customers here at the Garden Center, but after all those years she finally figured out that she was spending so much time here that she may as well get paid for it! Of course having spent time here previously has given Linda an intimate knowledge of the products that we carry in the store, and combined with her experiences from working in her own yard (and those of her neighbours!) she has come to know a great deal about gardening and landscaping in the Piedmont area. There's not too many Annuals Linda hasn't experimented with so if you need to know what will work well in your situation, she'll be sure to help you out.
MaryAnn Rhoades:
A few years back MaryAnn worked here at the Garden Center, but left to pursue other important aspects of her life. She soon realised, however, that she just missed it too much! So, MaryAnn came back, and got right back into the swing of things. You can usually find her tending to our Anuuals and Perennials, making sure they look their best for you to take home with you, but don't worry, she'll won't mind if you want her to help you with trees and shrubs either.
